FAQ
What is a Story Workshop?
Story Workshop is an approach supporting young children’s literacy built upon on four pillars: the sharing of stories; immersion in the arts; time for play; and a focus on meaning-making.
What is Narrative Medicine?
Narrative Medicine is a field of wonder and play and stories. Stories are good for us when we read them, listen to them, and tell them to one another. Stories have the power to connect us, to help regulate ourselves, and keep our brains healthy.
In Barry Lopez’s Crow and Weasel, he writes, “The stories people tell have a way of taking care of them. If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive. That is why we put these stories in each other’s memories. This is how people care for themselves.”
What is Creative Drama?
Creative Drama is an educational and experiential form of theater that uses improvisation, movement, song, and play to explore academic subjects, boost social-emotional skills, and foster creativity and imagination.
What age is the story doctor and friends best for?
Recommended for children aged 4—10 years.
Can I drop off my child at the program?
No. A child must be accompanied by an adult during the program. There will be supervised activities, but a parent’/caregiver must be present for the duration of the show.
What will the level of interaction be for my child during the program?
It varies. Programming range from low activity levels (listening to stories, singing, responding) to high activity levels (movement, play, creative drama). You and your child can decide the activities that match your comfort level.
I am an adult bringing a child to the program, is there an admission price for me?
No. Each child’s cost of admission is $5.00. Accompanying adults are free.
